Tips and Tricks – USPS Informed Delivery – Preview what is coming in the mail!

During a short meeting with our USPS account rep today, one of the reps mentioned Informed Delivery.  What is Informed Delivery?  Well the main feature of Informed Delivery that caught my attention was the fact that every morning I will get an email of what physical mail is supposed to come.  Yes, you read correctly.  Once you go through the quick sign-up process, USPS will scan the mail that you are supposed to get, and email you images of your mail daily.

There are numerous ways this can be useful.  Do you ever feel like you were supposed to get something in the mail but didn’t?  Did someone break in to my mailbox?  Now you know ahead of time which mail actually got sent to you with Informed Delivery.  If you live in a gated community like we do, sometimes you walk all the way to your mail room to find a empty mailbox, or a mailbox with just ads.  You can prevent that with Informed Delivery.

Based on the USPS website, there are some more things you can do by signing up for Informed Delivery.  I haven’t tried these other features yet, nor have I seen any of the other features in action, so I’m not sure how well they work.  However, it looks like you leave delivery instructions for packages if you are not able to accept the package, and easily mange your notifications which seems pretty cool.

Informed Delivery actually came out more than a year ago, however most people still have no idea what it is.  I told a few people around me about Informed Delivery today and some were as excited as I was to sign up, while others checked their mailboxes only once a month.

Although I’ve had my share of problems with our USPS, but I am very happy to see these types of improvements.  The mail carrier’s scanners are equipped with GPS now so we know exactly where our packages are, so now if something says delivered, and you didn’t receive it, you can call USPS to see where it was actually scanned.  You will notice that USPS now delivers on sundays too, thanks to Amazon.  =) D.I
