Apple Store iPhone battery replacement $29 – Too good to be true? I think so
June 22, 2018 We went the the Apple store.
The battery on one of our devices, a iPhone 6s Plus had battery issues. Once fully charged, the battery percentage will drop to 70% percent all of a sudden, then 60%, 40, etc….and then just shut off.
We get to the Apple store, and the person who was helping us was actually very kind. He walked us through some of the diagnostics, and even showed us the the battery capacity only shows 82%. He said that normally they want to see the capacity reach 80% or lower, but he will do the battery swap for us regardless for $29. He says the screen was replaced on our device, and the fingerprint sensor may not work properly, and we told him we don’t use fingerprint. Awesome! We leave the phone for a few hours, come back later to pick it up.
We pay $29 + $2.76 tax. A total of $31.76. $7 for parking at the Grove. Which would all be fine if the problem was fixed. The phone is exactly the same as it was before we took them the phone. We go back to the Apple store and tell the rep who greets people at the genius bar about the situation. They tell us they will have to put us on standby, which will take a few hours. And then we will have to leave the phone with them, which will also take a few hours. So we show them that we paid for another battery because capacity was showing 82%. You guys supposedly changed the battery, it still says 82%. Can we at least see the old battery so we know that it was replaced? They say, No we package the old batteries and send them out. Then he starts blaming it on the fact that we had our screen replaced before, and to pay $150 for another screen. So I told him nicely, if the screen replacement was going to be an issue, you should have told me before telling me that $29 will take care of it. Also, judging by how it still says 82%, it looks like the battery wasn’t replaced, so please just refund me my $29. He says “We can’t do that”
So aside from the fact that we had to spend half a day there, it really feels like we got robbed of our $29. Way to go Apple. I’m one of your crazy customers who has a iPhone 8 plus, but bought another one just because I wanted the red one that came out, and even got the red Beats to go with it. I will not rule out the fact something else may be causing the issue, however the way you handled the problem and your customer service is as bad as it can get.
Yes, still says 82% even after you guys “Supposedly” replaced the battery.
